The Parish is blessed by the presence of the historic church, St James The Greater.
The church is a grade II listed building, dating back to medieval times, showcasing traditional Devon ecclesiastical architecture.
Architectural higlights include the Norman Front, indicating origins as far back as the 11th century; and the west tower which was constructed in the 15th century, unbuttressed and featuring an embattled parapit.
The main body of the church was reconstructed in 1871, using local flint with Membury stone dressings. This work included the nave, chancel and south porch all which now feature lancet windows typical of that period.
St James the Greater is an active church and a cornerstone of the Sheldon Parish community.
